Coventry Kersey Dighton Patmore was born on 23rd July 1823 at Woodford, Essex the eldest son Peter George Patmore and Eliza Robertson. His first set of poems are published in 1844. He marries Emily Augusta Andrews in 1847, works at the British Museum from 1846 to 1864 and publishes his poetry, including "Angel in the House", extensively until his wife's death in 1862. Two years later he marries Marianne Caroline Byles and in 1866 he purchases Herons Ghyll, Sussex, becomes a country gentleman and writes "Odes." In 1875 the family moves to Hastings where he continues to write despite the loss of his second wife. He marries Harriet Robson in 1881 before moving to Lymington, Hampshire in 1891 where he dies on 26th November 1896.
