Robert Fry’s Will "To my daughter Mary Hannah [wife of my nephew Thomas Fry] my Manor of Walshes otherwise Sipsies with its rights privileges immunities and appurtenances. And also my capital messuage or Mansion House called Walshes with the cottages, barns, stables, outbuildings, farm lands, hereditaments and appurtenances thereto belonging in the parish of Rotherfield containing by admeasurement 307 acres, 2 roods and 12 perches now in tenure or occupation of John Moon his assigns or undertenants.
And also all that my messuage or tenement called Brookhouse, with the cottages …….. called by the several names of Brookhouse, Kitches, Kiddersash, Pickpale, Grimes, Fordbrook, Croft and Jumbers, containing by admeasurement 346 acres, 2 roods and 30 perches in parishes of Rotherfield and Buxted now in tenure or occupation of Joseph Wickens.
To hold the same to the said Mary Hannah Fry and her assigns during her natural life I appoint as trustees to preserve the estates during her life John Moon of Walshes farm aforesaid, and Richard Owen Stone of Mayfield, gentleman. And after her decease those estates shall be equally divided among her children. If only one survive that one to take the whole. If there be no issue, my brother John Fry of Mayfield gentleman shall take those estates for his life. And from his decease to be equally divided between his three sons John Fry the younger, Robert Fry the younger and the said Thomas Fry and their several heirs and assigns for ever.
I give to each trustee £100. To the poor of Rotherfield £70 to be distributed on S. Thomas the Apostle’s day next following after my decease. £5 apiece to each servant in my service at my decease. All residue, livestock etc I give to my daughter Mary Hannah Fry."
