Cross in Hand Windmill in 1936
This is a really splendid mill, the largest active post mill in Sussex, and the only active post mill in the county fitted with fan-tackle. It is situated just off the Heathfield-Lewes main road and is on the right-hand side just after leaving the cross-roads, and it is reached by a short lane, with a concealed turning off the right-hand side of the main road just after one passes the white mill-house.

The exact date of this mill is not known, but, like the former, it is not on its original site; indeed, it has twice been moved. It was built at Mount Ephraim, Uckfield, and moved to a site not very far from its present one at Cross-in-Hand in 1855, the squire having objected to it at Uckfield - why, no one seems to know!
